Hi,
I'm Terry Barrett - and yes
that is a real picture of me above... I
live in the heart of England in the county
of South Staffordshire.
You know, for most of our
life, the majority of us have little control of
our lives.
Think about it... you were born, your
parents looked after you, putting you right
when you went wrong and tried to raise you to
become the kind of person
that they thought you
should be.
At school, we get drawn into activities
because of peer pressure. We might not want to
get involved, but peer pressure for many at
that age is almost an irresistable force.
And some of these activities might not be...
well let's just say questionable
Then there’s university for some - straight
to a career for others, but again someone else
is in control for most of the time.
There’s always somebody else that has an
influence on how we live our lives; parents,
children, friends, the bank manager, the
boss and even the media these days. For most of
us the result is that we are unable to chase
our dreams, instead we simply move through life
in the direction that others push us, following
a random meaningless series of events.

The first step of self improvement
is knowing who we are. But facing who we really are
is probably one of the most difficult steps that we
have to take in order to improve ourselves.
Self improvement isn’t simply
getting a higher paid job, being healthier,
becoming wealthy, having lots of friends
etc...
Important though these may
be...
Self Improvement is
about truthfulness, compassion and integrity to
yourself.

Facing who we really are - who we
have become - is a journey of self discovery. We
have to leave our comfort zone and face uncharted
territory.
We are all different, so
there is no one single path to self improvement
- we all have things we want to improve in
our lives - some common with many others
such as becoming healthier, losing weight,
having financial independence etc... others
will be more personal - overcoming fears and
self doubt for example.
There will be setbacks and
pain along the way - at these times you have to
be strong and keep going. Otherwise the
temptation to give up and go back to your
comfort zone will become
irresistible.
